It's not all on Baker – NFL Week 12 Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield – Kurt Warner Film Study
Published at : December 04, 2021
When I hear the latest comments on Baker Mayfield, then go watch the latest film, I’m saying “that isn’t his fault!”
For today’s StudyBall we are going to take a look at Baker Mayfield. You guys know that I have no problem analyzing any position. I have no problem with criticizing any position as long as you know what you’re talking about. As long as you got the facts to back it up. Nothing frustrates me more than hearing someone say something and then I watch the tape and film and I say that’s absolutely not true. Don’t just go out there and make comments! Be analytical, be critics of guys. If you know what you’re talking about, push those guys to be better. Point out where they aren’t playing great at a particular time and I’ll be the first one to do that. You’ve seen it here on Studyball numerous times. But I also think that when credit is due, you give it. Or you don’t blame someone for issues that are in other places.
So, Baker Mayfield, taking shots from another player’s dad’s who we have heard from recently. They feel the way they feel no problem! But back it up with facts. To me, to hear the latest comments, then go watch the latest film on Baker Mayfield, I’m going: “that isn’t his fault.” He had one mistake that he made on the fumble. That happens. Sometimes the ball slips out of your hand. Wasn’t anything Baker could control. It slipped out of his hand, yes it sucks, it’s happened to all of us. I am going to take you through the first half of that game, because everyone is looking and saying: “you got three interceptions and you got three points out of that.” I’m going to show you what Baker did in this game and you can make your assessment and analyze. You can tell me whether Baker played well or didn’t play well. Whose fault it was or was it Baker’s? Let’s take a look at the tape.
You tell me. Did Baker play good enough football in that first half to have more than 3 points and possibly set them up for the win in that game? Yes he did. You saw decision after decision, play after play. He fumbled that last one that cost them points at the end of the half. I get it. That’s on Baker. The rest of them are not on him. He was making plays and I always say usually when something good happens in a game early, it can change the complexion of how a game plays out. Again, we don’t know that for sure. You make a great play early, and you can still lose the game. You make a bad play, and can still win. But it does something to your psyche when things don’t play out for you early. That first drive, where we make a throw on the money to the 10 yard line, we score there. Especially in a game like this, what does it mean to this team and the game? Yet all we want to do is crush Baker because we look at the big picture, the stats, the points on the board, the fact that Lamar Jackson threw for four interceptions and say how do you not win that football game. That game was not on Baker Mayfield. I wanted to break down the tape so whatever you are hearing, whoever is spouting that stuff out there: be ACCURATE with your analysis. Be able to show me why Baker played bad. Why Baker is hesitant to make throws. What’s going on with Baker Mayfield? I thought he played a really good football game. Just little things in the course of this game cost them points and opportunities to win this football game.
