US determined to implement AUKUS alliance

The White House's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan says the US is determined to implement the AUKUS security partnership.

Mr Sullivan also declared America is taking a "big bet" on Australia by promising to share nuclear submarine technology.

His remarks were made in a virtual address to the Low institute, where he vowed the US would champion its values with Beijing.

The comments were made before the Chinese President criticised the trilateral agreement, warning the region faced a new cold war.

It comes in the wake of Scott Morrison diplomatic stoush with France over the a decision to ditch a multi-million dollar submarine contract.
