Can You Have Too Much Colour In The Garden? 🌈🌈🌈🌈
Published at : September 22, 2021
Hi there everyone and I hope you are having a really good day.
I’ve been looking at my garden and making plans for how I’d like to change things for next year. Richard said recently that our garden is a “Disneyland of Colour” and I think he is right.
As I explain in this video, when I created my circular lawn in April this year, I suddenly had a lot more borders to fill (which was the reason I did it - lots more planting opportunities!!), and I just took things from elsewhere in the garden and plonked them in a gap, and then of course when it came to planting annuals, there was no holding me back and I really went for it.
While it has been an awful lot of fun filling up all these borders, I now realise that I probably have too many colours in the garden. In fact, I have EVERY colour you can think of 🤣🤣
I’ve really enjoyed the explosion of colour this year, but I don’t believe it is restful on the eye, and so in my review, I’ve decided that next year I’m going to tone it down a bit (not a lot - because that would be difficult for me to do 🤣🤣), but I’d like to try and just choose a few colours from the colour wheel, and repeat plant with those fewer colours.
I think I will definitely lose the hot colours (reds oranges and yellows) and go for the cooler tones (blues pinks and purples).
I have chosen those hot colours for my spring bulbs anyway, so I will have them earlier in the year, but then I will try to transition the colours to cooler once the purple alliums emerge.
So, that’s all I wanted to share with you today, and ask you the question “Do you think you can have too much colour in your garden, all at once?”. You may or may not agree with me, so it will be very interesting to hear your opinions and views.
